TOPIC 1 – Why do many psychiatric disorders emerge during adolescence?

Austin Child Guidance Center
The peak age of onset for many psychiatric disorders is adolescence, a time of remarkable physical and behavioural changes. The processes in the brain that underlie these behavioural changes have been the subject of recent investigations.
SOLUTION: Expose the adolescence to recreational activities based on their hobbies and interest to avoid psychiatric disorders and let them avoid drugs. We would also let them relax through letting them go away from stress and tension by letting them stay in a peaceful area.
STATISTICS: According to the The Journal of Pediatrics, 2018, 7.4% of children aged 3-17 years (approximately 4.5 million) have a diagnosed behavior problem.
What has been done so far?
•They have been diagnosed and treated with their psychiatric disorders
Why the group’s solution better?
•The group’s solution is better because diagnose and treatment with medicine is not enough.
•They must also have some exposure of recreational activities to make them relaxed and participative.
Why you need people’s support in your project/proposal? What can people do to help you?
•The group’s solution is better because diagnose and treatment with medicine is not enough.
•They must also have some exposure of recreational activities to make them relaxed and participative.
Why you need people’s support in your project/proposal? What can people do to help you?
•We need support from other people so that they can suggest and add some more effective ways to solve this problem.
TOPIC 2 – Effectiveness of Treatment National Institute on drugs

According to several studies, drug treatment reduces drug use by 40 to 60 percent and significantly decreases criminal activity during and after treatment.
SOLUTION: It is okay to use drug treatments to reduce drug use as long as this should not be abused.
STATISTICS: 40 to 60 percent and significantly decreases criminal activity during and after treatment. Methadone treatment has been shown to decrease criminal behavior by as much as 50 percent. Treatment can improve the prospects for employment, with gains of up to 40 percent after treatment.
What has been done so far?
•Continue the use of drug treatment
Why the group’s solution is better?
•Continuing the drug treatment is fine because it has some amazingly positive results.
Why you need people’s support in your project/proposal? What can people do to help?
•People can help us through further experiments and research to this topic.

TOPIC 3 – Nonmedical Prescription stimulant use among college students: Why we need to do something and what we need to do

campaignforrealhealth.com
The nonmedical use of prescription stimulants is a complex behavior, and should be viewed in the larger context of alcohol and drug involvement among young adults.
SOLUTION: Doctors should also take note of rapid increases in the amount of medication needed or frequent, unscheduled refill requests. Doctors should be alert to the fact that those misusing prescription drugs may engage in “doctor shopping”—moving from provider to provider—in an effort to obtain multiple prescriptions for their drug(s) of choice.
STATISTICS: Misuse of prescription drugs is highest among young adults ages 18 to 25, with 14.4 percent reporting nonmedical use in the past year. Among youth ages 12 to 17, 4.9 percent reported past-year nonmedical use of prescription medications.
What has been done so far?
•Pharmacists helped patients understand instructions for taking their medications along with how the medication works for their condition.
Why the group’s solution is better?
•Through our solution we can really ensure that the nonmedical use of prescription drugs can be monitored well by the doctor and the pharmacists.
Why you need people’s support in you project/proposal? What can people do to help you?
•People can help and support our project by also monitoring their loved ones or the people around them if they are doing this.
TOPIC 4 – Estimates of economic costs of alcohol and drug abuse

The high prevalence of alcohol and drug abuse and mental illness imposes a substantial financial burden on those affected and on society.

Dual Diagnosis
SOLUTION: Let the victims go our rehabilitation center to cure their addiction.
STATISTICS: The cost of excessive alcohol use in the United States reached $249 billion in 2010, or about $2.05 per drink. Most (77%) of these costs were due to binge drinking. The total losses to the economy related to alcohol and drug abuse and mental illness for 1988 are estimated at $273.3 billion. The estimates may be considered lower limits of the true costs to society of alcohol and drug abuse and mental illness in the United States.
What has been done so far?
• Mandatory reporting of polices
Why the group’s solution better?
• It is much more better to cure their addiction by letting them go to the rehabilitation center because it is more effective.
Why you need people‘s support in you project/proposal? What can people do to help you?
• We need support from the people because through this we can monitor other people about their addiction.
TOPIC 5 – Engaging Communities to prevent underage drinking

Community-based efforts offer broad potential for achieving population-level reductions in alcohol misuse among youth and young adults.

dailymail.co.uk
SOLUTION: Make friends with people who don’t drink so that you can’t be influenced and let the price of the drink be higher so that it can’t be bought easily or cheaply.
STATISTICS:In 2016, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported that 19% of youth aged 12 to 20 years drink alcohol and 12% reported binge drinking in the past 30 days.

Whas been done so far?
•Prevention efforts aimed at reducing rates of alcohol use typically do so by seeking to minimize the target population’s exposure to harmful risk factors and/or enhance protective/promotive factors.
Why the group’s solution better?
•The group’s solution is better because it is more easy to do and more effective.
Why you need people‘s support in you project/proposal? What can people do to help you?
•People need to support our proposal because this is for the betterment of the youth and in order for them not to be more exposed into drinking and alcoholism. The youth are still young and there will be higher chances of getting illness in an early age.
